6 Reasons for Choosing In-Clinic Testing

Professional Collection:

A trained phlebotomist performs the draw, ensuring the highest standards of technique and reducing the risk of a faulty sample.

Highest Sample Quality:

Venous blood samples (drawn from the vein) are considered the gold standard for many lab tests and yield the most data-rich results.

Suitable for All Panels:

Venous draws can collect larger volumes, making them suitable for all comprehensive and complex panels without any restrictions.

Enhanced Comfort for Anxious Patients:

If you are nervous or prone to fainting, having a professional present in a clinical setting provides immediate medical support.

Medication Checks:

If you are on blood thinners or have clotting issues, the clinic setting allows for immediate professional monitoring and aftercare.

No Kit Handling:

Frequently Asked Questions

In-Clinic Health & Performance Blood Tests (Phlebotomy) FAQ’s

What is a venous blood test (Phlebotomy)?

A venous blood test, also called venipuncture or phlebotomy, is the procedure of taking a blood sample from a vein, typically in your arm, using a needle. It is the most common way to collect blood for diagnostic lab testing.

Preparation instructions depend on the specific test you are taking:

  • Fasting: For some tests (like a full lipid profile or glucose test), you may be asked to fast (not eat or drink anything except water) for 8 to 12 hours before your appointment.8
  • Hydration: Always drink plenty of water beforehand, even if fasting. Being well-hydrated makes your veins easier to find and helps prevent feeling faint.
  • Clothing: Wear loose-fitting or short-sleeved clothing so the phlebotomist can easily access your arm.
  • Medication/Supplements: Ask your healthcare provider if you need to stop or change any medications, vitamins, or supplements before the test. Do not stop any prescribed medication without medical advice.

The sample is usually drawn from a vein on the inside of your arm, near the elbow or wrist, where the veins are close to the surface. A soft strap called a tourniquet is placed around your upper arm to make the vein swell and become more prominent.

You will typically feel a quick prick or sting as the needle is inserted. The procedure is generally fast (usually less than 3 minutes) and should not be painful once the needle is in the vein. If you are nervous, inform the phlebotomist, and they can help put you at ease, or you can ask to lie down.

Venipuncture is very safe, and complications are rare. Common, minor side effects include:

  • Bruising (Hematoma): A small bruise or tender area at the puncture site is the most common side effect and should fade within a few days.
  • Fainting/Dizziness: Some people feel lightheaded or faint. Telling the phlebotomist beforehand and lying down can help prevent this.

After the needle is removed, the phlebotomist will apply pressure to the site with cotton wool or gauze and then apply a plaster.

  • Keep the Dressing: Leave the plaster/gauze on for at least 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Apply Pressure: If bleeding restarts, apply firm pressure directly to the site for several minutes.
  • Avoid Strain: Avoid strenuous use of the arm, heavy lifting, or intense exercise for the rest of the day to reduce bruising.
  • Re-fuel: If you fasted, have a small snack and drink plenty of fluids.

The time it takes to get results varies greatly depending on the type of test. Routine tests may be processed within 48 hours or a few days, while specialised tests may take a week or longer. We will tell you when and how you will receive your results.

At Home Tasso+ Health & Performance Testing System (FAQ’s)

General

How does the Tasso+ device work?

The Tasso Button sticks to the skin with a light adhesive. When the button is pressed, a vacuum forms, and a lancet pricks the skin’s surface. The vacuum draws blood out of the capillaries and into a compatible container attached to the bottom of the Tasso Button.

Some people refer to Tasso Devices as a needle-free system since it does not use a hollow venipuncture needle to enter a vein.

Each device is used onetime to collect a sample and is then discarded.

Participants in clinical studies have reported lower levels of pain with the Tasso device compared to collecting blood with a finger stick or standard venipuncture procedure.

Tasso’s Instructions for Use and packaging are usable by people without any medical training or knowledge. The product has undergone extensive usability testing with naive participants who received no specific training.

Yes. Please visit our online product use videos.

Tasso devices should always be used in accordance with the guidelines established by the customer’s clinical or medical team.

The Tasso+ collects liquid samples of whole capillary blood.

Blood volume is dependent on the type of tube used but averages 200-600μL. Please refer to the tube specifications.
